Hercules: Curse Of The Hydra
Battle Medusa and the Scorpion King in SMERC's third person adventure.
Mythological themed video games will never go out of style, thanks in part to Sony's God of War franchise. The developers at SMERC hope to capitalize on our love of all things ancient with Hercules: Curse of the Hydra, launching this year on Apple iOS.
This third person action fest casts you as Hercules, son of Zeus, who must save Greece from the goddess Hera's wrath while at the same time defeating the dreaded Hydra. This means traveling to a plethora of dangerous environments and slaughtering countless enemies, including Medusa and the Scorpion King.
As expected, the developers mapped the hero's moves to the touch pad, as you guide him through the game using an invisible analog stick and execute attacks and special moves on the opposite side of the screen. Herc can chop monsters to bits with a sword, but over time, you'll unlock new weapons and god-like attacks that'll help destroy several bad guys at once.
On top of that, you can upgrade Hercules to improve his abilities and then take a ride on Pegasus, a feature that will presumably break up the ground combat.
Visually, the game doesn't break new ground for the iPhone and iPad, but the graphics get the job done, with 16 levels chock full of characters and environments inspired by such classics as Clash of the Titans; the original, of course.
Now it's just a matter of getting our hands on it to see whether this God of War inspired title has what it takes to make some noise. We'll let you know as soon as the game hits the App Store.
