Don't Fall Off
We try not to lose time, and our cookies, playing EA's upcoming iPhone game.
Some of us can't stand the ocean, let alone boats. There's something creepy about floating above sharks, active volcanoes and other hazards. Then there's the whole drowning thing, as well as the off chance that machine gun toting pirates may hijack the boat. So yeah, when it comes to sailing around the world, it's OK. We'll pass.
That said, we never shy away from controlling virtual ships, and can't wait to step aboard Electronic Arts' upcoming iPhone App, Don't Fall Off. This cute and addictive game tasks you with keeping a cuddly hamster on aboard without plummeting into the water and subsequently dying. Yes, we know that sounds grim, but the game looks attractive, has a competitive edge and, most importantly, is a lot of fun.
You really have two goals here. The first is to keep the hamster on deck by sliding a finger back and forth to keep the boat level amidst turbulent seas. If the little guy starts rolling to the left, it's your job to slowly tilt the boat right to keep him level. Meanwhile, you'll need to dodge raindrops and other hazards (including volcanic ash), as these things can knock the hamster into the drink, so to speak.
Thankfully, the developers chose to make things easier with the inclusion of power-ups that appear on screen. The sun, for example, temporarily improves the weather, while an umbrella shields the hamster from rain. Meanwhile, the flame lets you vaporize raindrops in midair.
All of this combines to form a cool experience made better with the inclusion of global leaderboards, as well as the ability to post high scores to Facebook. Even better, we get to play the game on land where we belong.
Don't Fall Off will make its App Store debut March 11, and we'll post a review in the near future. For now, we'll leave you with this...
