Age of Zombies
Travel through time and kill zombie cavemen in Halfbrick Studios' gun toting adventure.
Halfbrick Studios' Age of Zombies is a fun dual stick shooter with varied scenery, a cool assortment of weapons and of course, thousands of zombies to kill. It's easy to play, oftentimes funny and quite intense. We just wish it lasted a bit longer.
The game casts you as no-nonsense tough guy Barry Steakfries, who grabs a pistol and sets off to slaughter hordes of brain munching freaks. To do this, he must travel back in time and destroy the undead across different eras, so expect to visit Prehistoric times, the 1930s and ancient Egypt, among other locations. This also means squaring off against zombies that reflect the time-period, like flesh eating cavemen, mummies and even a giant zombie T-Rex.
Thankfully, Barry as quite the arsenal, including an SMG, shotgun, grenades, a mini gun, buzz saw and flamethrower. Unlike most shooters, though, you cannot amass a collection of boomsticks. Instead, you wait for something to appear on the map and then walk over the respective icon to pick it up. You'll also need to choose wisely, since you lose the current weapon if you grab another. Only the default pistol (with unlimited ammo) remains in Barry's possession.
That said, you should upgrade as soon as possible, since the developers shove tons of zombies on screen at once. Of course, that gives you a great opportunity to achieve huge combo kills and unlock one of many trophies in the game, so don't hesitate to chuck a grenade into the mob and watch them all explode. Meanwhile, the game's easy to control, as you guide Barry with the left virtual stick and aim/shoot with the right.
On the downside, Age of Zombies (despite taking place over thousands of years) only takes a few hours to complete, with only a Survival mode awaiting you. It's only $2.99 across all platforms, so the length somewhat justifies the cost, but we want more.
For now, it's a short but sweet frag fest you should definitely experience, if for nothing else than to bag a zombie T-Rex.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
What's Hot: Multiple time periods, lots of weapons and zombies to kill, humorous one-liners.
What's Not: Too short.
