I Must Run!
Bust out of jail and save your main squeeze (or die trying) in this fast-paced action game.
Gamelion Studios' I Must Run! reminds us of another quality iPhone game, Canabalt, in that you must keep the character moving without falling off a ledge or running into something. That said, a handful of differences and a budget price make it worth a look.
This time, you're a wrongly convicted marine who busts out of prison in a desperate attempt to save the one he loves from death. To do this, you'll need to scale a series of buildings, jump across trains and navigate your way through a construction site, scoring points the longer the character remains upright. Fail, and you start from the beginning.
Games such as this normally feature a jumping ability and that's it, but in this case, the developers divided the screen into three quadrants, where left is punch (you can pummel barrels and other objects), right is jump and the bottom instructs the hero to slide; PSN version uses the controller. Not exactly the most complex or innovative control scheme, but it adds something special to the game, especially punching stuff, which helps us achieve higher scores.
On top of that, I Must Run! looks impressive, with police choppers, lightning and cool running/jumping animations, all displayed in glorious color; it definitely beats black and white.
The proverbial icing on the cake is the $0.99 sticker price, which is two bucks less than Canabalt. Not bad for a game that is on par with the aforementioned hit. That said, the same game costs $3.99 on the PlayStation Network.
I Must Run! won't keep you busy for weeks, but it's definitely worth downloading for a buck. Just remember to look before you leap.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1 or later.
What's Hot: Addictive and well-executed concept, attractive visuals, only $0.99.
What's Not: Does little we haven't seen before, PSN version costs $3.99.
