You won't catch cold from playing this bacteria laden puzzler. Unless, of course, you enjoy licking iPhones at the mall.
When it comes to video game germs, none can top the pesky bugs in Dr. Mario. Developer PixelAmmo hopes to change that with FluOrama, a unique and casual friendly puzzler that challenges you to track down and trap a bunch of annoying bacteria. Of course, if that doesn't work, you can always blow them up with landmines.
To start, the concept couldn't be simpler. Due to human error, scores of germs were set loose in a science lab. To get the bothersome critters back into containment, you must trap them within a designated area by surrounding it with blocks. Just tap an empty space and the block magically appears.
If only it were that simple. As it turns out, the germs have no intention of returning to captivity, instead opting to freely bounce around the screen. For each puzzle, you'll need to find the most efficient way of getting them back where they belong, paying close attention to the number of times you tap the screen; completing a puzzle in the fastest time possible with the least number of clicks plays a huge role in the high score and the amount of money you receive.
Why do you need money? To purchase cool upgrades like rows of blocks (great for sealing one side of the screen without haphazardly tapping it), landmines that destroy germs, a freeze ability that slows them down and other items. You'll eventually need these things to combat the different types of bugs, which include bugs that slowly chip away at blocks and others that temporarily disappear.
Taking all of this into account, FluOrama is a fun title that packs plenty of value into a budget price. Figuring out how to successfully beat each stage takes some brainpower, while the excellent touch controls mean you'll never place a block accidentally. The game crashed a couple of times, but at the budget price, this shouldn't prevent you from letting it infect your iPhone.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Requires iOS 3.2 or later.
What's Hot: Unique concept, challenging gameplay, different germs and items, only $0.99.
What's Not: Crashes.
