Angry Birds Downloaded Over 100 Million Times, Consoles Dying
Rovio spreads its wings, toots its own horn and says consoles will RIP.
We have to give Rovio credit. The company's immensely popular video game, Angry Birds, has been downloaded over 100 million times. These days, you can't get that kind of exposure without using the words "sex tape", and even then, you'll probably come up short; you hear that, Paris Hilton?
The news comes from Rovio's own Peter Vesterbacka, who spoke at the South by Southwest Interactive conference in Austin, TX this past weekend. In addition to dropping the news, he also went on to say that consoles are on the decline.
We'll partially agree with him. The big three (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) still rule the gaming industry, but these companies need to pay more attention to the mobile scene and in some cases, emulate its business model. Consumers will eventually grow tired of paying $60 per game.
