Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12
He's had trouble on and off the golf course, but Tiger still endorses a mean sports game.
As expected, EA Sports will release Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 across multiple platforms, and while this year's game will shine brightest on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, we're more interested in the iOS version. Releasing this March, the iPhone/iPad edition should by all accounts trump its predecessor with superior visuals and a wider variety of features to keep you on the virtual green for hours.
First, the graphics look excellent compared to the previous PGA Tour. The developers nixed the pixilated courses for more realistic environments that take advantage of the iPhone 4's gorgeous retina display; you can also expect a high level of quality on the iPad.
In addition, PGA Tour 12 has a much larger roster that includes (of course) Tiger Woods, Anthony Kim, Paula Creamer, Camilo Villegas, Zach Johnson and Jim Furyk, among others. EA even threw in some new courses, such as the fan favorite Predator fantasy course and the Old White Course at Greenbrier.
As for modes, there's the all-new Tiger Challenge, which consists of 20 plus mini-games that let you earn cash used to upgrade your custom golfer's abilities and/or participate in various PGA Tour events.
One of the more intriguing features, though, is the Closest to the Pin Facebook Challenge. Twice a week, EA will select a new Par-3 hole, allowing you and your friends to see who gets closest to the pin, complete with leaderboard support. We're just curious how everything works.
Finally, the publisher will release a free version of the game for iPhone and iPod Touch that not only includes Closest to the Pin, but also three holes at TPC Sawgrass.
Factor in local Wi-Fi and Bluetooth multiplayer, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 has all the makings of a hit. We'll find out if EA Mobile scored a hole in one when the game debuts this month.
