Cut The Rope Wins BAFTA Award, First iPhone Game To Earn The Honor
Om Nom defeats DS and PSP in its quest for world domination.
Move over, Natalie Portman, and make way for Cut the Rope. After grabbing the award for Best Handheld Game at this month's Game Developer's Choice Awards, Chillingo's celebrated puzzler struck gold again, dominating BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Handheld category. Not only did it beat games on DS and PSP, but it also became the first iOS title to achieve this milestone; suck it, Angry Birds.
"Cut the Rope has been nothing short of a phenomenon on the iOS platform and we're delighted it's been recognized by the British Academy," said Chris Byatte, Co-General Manager of Chillingo.
"It is hugely flattering to win for such a prestigious award," added Efim Voinov, CTO of the game's developer, Zeptolab. "The whole team is ecstatic!"
With over six million downloads to its credit, Cut the Rope has become one of the App Store's best games, both on the iPhone and iPad. Of course, if you haven't played it yet, do so immediately.
