Resident Evil Mercenaries Vs., Streets Of Rage 2 Make App Store Debut
Pummel thugs and shoot monsters in this week's iPhone and iPad releases.
Sometimes, the App Store is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Turns out, this week was no exception until a few hours ago, when the new iPhone and iPad games finally arrived.
The biggest is Resident Evil Mercenaries Vs. ($2.99), a pint size version of the bonus mode found in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. We previewed the game a while back, and now that it's here, we're a bit concerned that Capcom didn't put as much love into it as the upcoming Mercenaries 3D on 3DS. That said, we still plan to download the game this evening and give those infected villagers exactly what they deserve.
Another game we can't wait to play is Streets of Rage 2, the old Genesis classic. It's one of our favorite beat-em-ups, but the thought of paying $2.99 for such an old title may prevent us from enjoying one of the best 16-bit side scrollers of all time.
From there, we spied a handful of games that could turn out to be huge hits. You Don't Know Jack ($2.99) has a ton of potential, especially since the App Store needs a quality trivia game.
We're also interested in The Relic ($0.99), a hack-an-slash adventure that shoves tons of enemies on the screen. Reminds us of a 3D Gauntlet, but fun.
Then there's Coconut Dodge ($0.99), a critically acclaimed strategy game that tasks you with maneuvering a crab back and forth to collect treasure while avoiding obstacles.
In addition, tower defense fans may have a lot to love with A.I.R. Defense ($0.99), while Air Penguin ($0.99) challenges you to safely launch the adorable birds into the air while avoiding enemies.
If money is tight, you can go with the free 3D shooter Men vs Machines, or build your own insect community with Bug Village.
The hidden gem, though, could turn out to be Elemental Rage HD ($6.99), a Castlevania style adventure where you explore one huge environment, attacking enemies and upgrading items to learn new abilities.
All of these games hit the New Zealand App Store this morning, so you should expect to see them in the U.S. around 11:00PM ET.
