Nintendo 3DS eShop: Most Wanted App Store Games
Nintendo can beat Apple at its own game by bringing some of the iPhone and iPad's best hits to the 3DS eShop.
Nintendo continues to downplay Apple as a legitimate threat to its portable business, which could lead to the company learning a painful lesson the hard way.
That said, Mario and Co. should at the very least realize that handheld gaming has evolved, in large part because of the App Store. Casual consumers are more interested in "snackable" games they can enjoy in small chunks of time.
To that end, Nintendo would be wise to bring some of the iPhone and iPad's best titles to the upcoming eShop, the virtual store for 3DS.
On that note, we created a short list of games we'd most like to see.
Angry Birds/Angry Birds Seasons
This one's obvious. Rovio's critically acclaimed series invaded just about every mobile platform as well as pop culture, with a movie tie in and the theme music being played during sporting events. It's time for Nintendo to ink a deal with the developer to bring this slingshot-shooting masterpiece to 3DS, complete with glasses free 3D effects.
We had a blast playing NBA Jam on the Wii before turning our collective attention to the iPhone and iPad versions, both of which feature something the console versions don't: updated rosters.
This game would be a perfect fit for 3DS, using the d-pad and face buttons to deliver rim-rattling dunks.
Real Racing 2
No disrespect to Ridge Racer 3D, but we're in the mood for something more technical. Firemint's Real Racing 2 would certainly scratch that itch, with a simulation heavy experience full of licensed cars and a deep single player mode.
Tiny Wings may go down in history as one of the coolest bathroom games of all time. Don't lie, we know you play it on the toilet.
This surprise smash hit tasks you guiding a cute little bird through different islands, launching him into the air while achieving a high score. It's simple but incredibly addictive, and the touch screen, combined with 3D, would make the App even cooler.
This sweet title seems custom made for the 3DS, as players could guide a metal ball (shades of Metroid) through a variety of obstacle courses by dragging the stylus along the touch screen. Meanwhile, you'd view the action on top, in 3D, of course.
League of Evil
Like many Wii owners, we were bummed by the cancellation of Super Meat Boy, but who needs that when you have League of Evil? This Super Meat Boy inspired platformer challenges you to go from point A to point B without succumbing to the game's many hazards. Your reward? Punching an evil scientist in the head.
Super Mega Worm
This action game reminds us of the Kevin Bacon movie Tremors, except you play as the monster. Your goal is consume as many humans as possible, rising from the rocky depths to cause havoc and watching blood and body parts fly all over the place. The 3DS circle pad would fit this App nicely.
Dungeon Hunter 2
3DS could use a good hack-an-slash adventure, and Gameloft's dungeon crawler would fit the bill. Besides, who can resist the chance to slaughter hordes of monsters and collect tons of loot? Include wireless multiplayer for up to four players, and this would be a huge hit.
