Super Mario 3DS: Everything We Know
Stay up to date on Mario's newest adventure.
If there's one thing the 3DS needs, it's more Mario. The plumber's conspicuous absence may have contributed to a disappointing launch, as casual consumers struggled to find a must have killer app amidst the initial games lineup.
Thankfully, Nintendo's celebrated mascot is on the way, in not one but three announced games that include new entries in the Mario Kart and Paper Mario franchises.
The third title, Super Mario 3DS, is by far the most interesting. This new adventure should put the system's best features on display while giving passionate fans their platform fix.
For the most part, Nintendo has remained mum on the details, but a few precious nuggets of info have made their way to the Internet.
Without further ado, here's what we know.
-Currently in development by Nintendo EAD Tokyo, the same team behind Super Mario Galaxy.
-Shigeru Miyamoto wants Nintendo to release it this year.
-Is a cross between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64.
-Utilizes the 3DS gyroscope.
-Logo sports a tail at the end of the word "Mario", suggesting the return of the raccoon (Tanooki) suit from Super Mario Bros. 3. Miyamoto all but confirmed this by stating, "it's what you think it is."
-Glasses free 3D makes judging distances to platforms easier.
-You'll be able collect Star Coins, similar to New Super Mario Bros. on DS.
-Mario removes his trademark red cap.
-Will be present and playable at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), June 7-9.
