Finally, a droid that can hang ten.
Consider Robo Surf the surprise App Store gem of the month.
This charming homage to all things retro tasks you with guiding a cute surfboard riding robot across the ocean, dodging all manner of creatures, including blowfish, seagulls, sharks and, oddly enough, bats.
To play, you simply press the screen to make the wave rise, then release to make it fall, weaving between flocks of birds and other hazards.
Meanwhile, collecting cans of fuel builds a turbo meter that, when activated, makes the droid temporarily invincible and significantly faster.
It's the type of game that never ends, so your only goal is to travel as far as possible and unlock up to 35 achievements along the way. Then you can post the score to Facebook and Twitter, though Robo Surf also supports Reddit and Delicious as well. Of course, if all you want is to post to the online leaderboards via Game Center, well, you can do that too.
On top of that, the App has some of the best retro inspired music we've heard in years. It's the same track the whole way through, but we can't get it out of our heads. Brilliant stuff.
Most importantly, the game's a ton of fun and shockingly addictive. It literally came out of nowhere. Kudos to Pieces Interactive for releasing such a well-designed and cool App guaranteed to consume hours of our lives.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
What's Hot: Sweet music, achievements, leaderboards, super addictive, sharp 2D graphics, user-friendly touch controls, hidden characters.
What's Not: Nothing. We love it.
