Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Tips
Show those monsters you mean business. Most importantly, stay alive.
Capcom's Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is an intense arcade style shooter that plunges you into missions swarming with bad guys, from deranged cultists to insane villagers brandishing wrenches and bottles. You'll even contend with a humongous axe-wielding executioner.
What makes this 3DS title even crazier is the constantly ticking clock. You must kill quickly before the timer reaches zero, or it's game over.
Bottom line, we don't want that to happen.
To prevent failure (or even worse, your untimely demise), we put together a list of tips guaranteed to give you an edge against those swarms of infected lunatics.
You are about to enter the world of survival horror. Good luck.
Select the right aiming type: Squeeze the right trigger, and the game automatically goes into the default first person view. If you prefer the familiar over the shoulder perspective from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, you can switch between FPS View (first person) and TPS View (third person) by going to Options and choosing Control Settings.
Experiment with each character: The Mercenaries 3D comes with eight playable characters, all of which have different weapons. It's your job to play levels with each to see which one suits you. Chris Redfield, for example, has a handgun, shotgun and rifle, while Jill Valentine possesses an automatic rifle, combat knife and shotgun (Rebecca Chambers has only two weapons). If you suck using the rifle, perhaps Chris isn't the right person for the job.
Equip skills: The game includes 30 unique skills, of which, you can equip three per round. They imbue your character will a variety of perks, from improving vitality recovery to faster reloading. Even better, these skills evolve over time (thanks to Skill Points earned in the field), so it's in your best interest to find a great combo and stick with it.
[Editor's Note: You'll unlock new skills and characters the more you play.]
Be aggressive: Remember, you need to kill a certain number of enemies before time runs out. Don't cower in fear. Come out firing and never look back. Besides, the faster you kill monsters, the higher the combo. Slow down, and you'll lose it.
Grab ammunition: Fallen enemies will often leave behind valuable items, such as grenades and ammo. Quickly pick them up.
Always keep your weapons loaded: Don't get caught with an empty machine gun. To reload, hold the R trigger while pressing B.
Don't stop for too long: Enemies appear from all angles and love to attack from behind. That said, be sure to move around. It prevents your character from becoming a snack and helps you locate bad guys hidden behind objects; not all of them come to you.
To perform a quick turn, hold the circle pad down and press B.
Keep an eye on the timer: Always know how much time remains per round to avoid annoying restarts.
Monitor your character's health: Keep your hero in tip-top shape by consuming herbs and using first aid sprays. Make sure you have these items by taking a glance at the inventory, located on the touch screen.
Communicate with your partner (local multiplayer): Let the other person know if you're hurt or need extra firepower to take down monsters.
Switch weapons using the d-pad: When things get crazy, taking a glance at the touch screen inventory could result in death. If to quickly switch weapons, press up/down on the d-pad.
Observe the mini map: The map, located on the touch screen, helps you avoid dead ends.
