Update: Age of Empires DS
New screens, new info...
Back in March, we reported that Majesco would be bringing the popular PC real-time strategy series, Age of Empires, to the Nintendo DS handheld. Today the company has finally disclosed some new information on the game, titled Age of Empires: The Age of Kings, scheduled for a release this Fall.
Labeled as a turn-based strategy game rather than real-time, the title will feature five civilizations for players to choose from: Britons, Franks, Mongols, Saracens, and Japanese, each with their own respective campaigns and architectural differences.
Just like previous Age of Empires titles, the core gameplay involves the construction and assembling of an empire, dominating through various regions and increasing the strength of your civilization.
Players will be required to train and develop a capable army, and they'll have as many as 45 different units to go through for each civilization. A returning feature from past games, the special Hero characters, will be available with historic figures such as Richard the Lionheart, Robin Hood, Joan of Arc, Genghis Kahn, and Saladin leading their respective armies into battle.
Age of Empires: The Age of Kings will also make use of the Nintendo DS's wireless functions, allowing up to four players to battle against each other.
You can be sure to see more of Age of Empires: The Age of Kings for the Nintendo DS at E3 next week, but until then head over to IGN for some brand new screens.
