The Thing: Flame Thrower App Only Features Your Good Side
Movie tie-in takes "you have something on your face" to a horrifying level.
This weekend marks the release of The Thing, which is actually a prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing, one of the few movies to scare the gold coins out of us. Blood test, eh? OK, you first.
To get people hyped for all that shape shifting goodness, Universal Pictures teamed with metaio to create The Thing: Flame Thrower, a free app for iPhone, iPad and Android.
As the title implies, you'll get to pick up a virtual flame thrower and fry some disgusting aliens. What's especially cool is being able to do so via gyroscope, meaning you'll physically maneuver the device to spot those copycat extraterrestrials.
The second part of the app, by far the most interesting, is the ability to take photos of people and watch as the technology transforms them into hideous creatures from space.
What not you say after turning someone into a twisted abomination: "Wow, now that's an improvement."
Is the app any good? Hard to say, but we refuse to argue with the low price of free. As for the movie, most reviews have been negative. A bummer, since we'd love to see the events leading up to the Kurt Russell powered horror flick. Matinee showing, here we come.
