The Fast and the Furious
Remember this one? Look to take the action home in this mobile game version of the Vin Diesel movie!
It's about time that we saw some sort of racing action from the genuine source. I'm talking about the film The Fast and the Furious, which came around a few years ago and introduced the world to the phenomenon of underground street racing, which has since spawned many a video game product from Electronic Arts and other companies. Now I-Play is bringing the film license itself to attention in a new mobile phone game. It's just too bad that the execution isn't nearly as smooth as the movie.
The game puts you smack dab in the middle of the street racing action, taking on five other computer opponents and racing for first place. A victory gets you a guaranteed stop at a chop shop, where you can upgrade with new parts and necessary nitros that will help you garner a lead in the next race.
The only problem is, the racing action itself isn't really that enjoyable. No matter which control scheme you might use, the game's controls are slow and plodded, not allowing you the handling that you're supposed to be given for each vehicle. It feels like you're trying to control a pile of mud instead of a Cadillac, really.
The looks aren't really much better, as there's no real variance with your other racers. They're just dime a dozen, with only some quick shots from the movie to establish their personalities. The whole thing grows a bit dull by the second race- not exactly what you call an attention keeper. This Fast and the Furious is anything but - you're better off just watching the movie instead.
What's Hot: Decent looks and gameplay make it fairly solid.
What's Not: A bit slow, and the game itself doesn't really vary much.
