Favorite Halloween Games
Scare yourself senseless with some of our favorite haunted games on iPhone and iPad.
Halloween is right around the corner, and while I have my Luigi costume all ready to go, I need a few apps in my pocket, just in case the party turns out to be a bust.
That said, check out a list of my favorite iPhone and iPad games that will get you in the Halloween spirit.
Angry Birds Seasons
Angry Birds Seasons is the gift that keeps on giving, and the Halloween update gives players 30 new levels with a great pumpkin-filled theme. There's also a brand new orange bird that inflates into a massive size to help you plow through some of those annoying little pigs. The best deal in the app store continues to impress and is a fun Halloween treat to check out.
Monster Dash is, for all intents, the spiritual precursor to Jetpack Joyride, both made by Fruit Ninja developer Halfbrick. Where as Jetpack takes place in a pretty antiseptic scientific environment, Monster Dash is all about taking you to Earth's scariest realms, populated by zombies, mummies and vampires. With weapons like the machine gun jetpack (where have I seen that before?) and rocket launchers, Monster Dash is a must have this Halloween.
Plants Vs. Zombies
If you haven't played Plants vs. Zombies yet, let Halloween be your excuse to finally check out one of the best games to come out in recent years. Use a wide variety of plants to protect your house from the zombie onslaught, and unlock a bunch of fun mini-games and a very addictive Zen Garden to get the most out of Popcap's best game in the App Store.
What's better than flying up into the clouds in a massive gunship, raining down artillery on a hapless population of zombies? This game is extremely addictive and comes in at just the right price tag of $0.99. Innovative take on the zombie genre and a lot of fun.
Now we're entering mature Halloween territory. In Slice HD, you must place your fingers very carefully on the touch screen to avoid the sharp knives blocking switches that, when pressed, take you to the next level. Keep the volume up on this one and hand it to a friend to see them jump as their virtual blood splatters the screen. Just make sure they don't drop your iPad.
What's a good Halloween scare without a trip to Hell? In Doom Resurrection, you travel through different levels that are inspired by the PC classic, replete with demons that are intent on killing you. The game is a rail shooter, which means you only have to focus on aiming your assortment of guns, but this title is challenging enough to make it one helluva time. Get it? I said helluva, and it takes place in Hell. Forget it.
Infinity Blade is widely regarded as the best-looking iOS game, and about a year after release it still holds that throne. While not exactly a Halloween game, the gothic vibe and tense battles with huge creatures will definitely send a chill down your spine. The game has also seen a few updates that nicely extend its replay ability, and it's a great addition to any library as we anticipate next month's sequel.
