Roll in the Hole
Pandas have a huge thing for ice cream. What, you didn't know?
There's no hidden message in Roll in the Hole's title. Chillingo and Eccentricity Games present you with a hole, and it's your mission to roll into it. Objectives don't get much clearer than that.
In this case, you guide a fat panda named PoPo into what looks like a warp of some sort.
Controls involve pressing the left and ride sides of the screen to roll in those respective directions. Here, momentum and timing are key, as you'll build up just enough speed to navigate platforms, bounce off balloons and charge down ramps while picking up ice cream bars along the way. There are three tasty looking treats per level, but you don't have to grab them all to proceed to the next stage.
It's a fun game for the most part, though the controls tend to make the experience more frustrating than it should be, especially when it comes to dominating those aforementioned balloons.
That said, this is one of those titles where some levels are pathetically easy, others ridiculously tough. The difficulty is a bit all over the place.
In addition, the developers should have definitely implemented tilt controls. Pressing the screen works, but the more options, the better.
Taking all of this into account, Roll in the Hole is yet another enjoyable physics based game from Chillingo that's worth your attention. At this point, though, there's very little about this Panda adventure that sets it apart from similar, and arguably better, iPhone and iPad titles on the market.
