Nintendo's 3DS Strategy: Give Europe The Cool Stuff
Company's newly announced bundles have Americans (like us) salivating.
OK, Nintendo. We see what's going on here.
First, you announced the super sexy Ice White 3DS that comes with Super Mario 3D Land and the Coral Pink 3DS with Nintendogs + Cats, both of which are set to debut in Europe November 18; Australia will also see the Coral system.
Now there's a gorgeous Zelda-themed machine with fancy artwork adorning the top of the 3DS, along with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. It too, is European exclusive.
U.S. gamers, meanwhile, have a couple DSi XL bundles to choose from. Seriously, big N? DSi XL? That's so 2010.
Why leave us in the cold? Super Mario 3D Land is a huge title, and with Zelda's 25th anniversary in full swing, we're willing to bet Americans would buy these systems, especially during the busy holiday shopping season. What better way to introduce these prospective customers to Mario's newest adventure by bundling it with the system?
Now we have to make the all-important decision: to import, or not import.
Besides, with 3DS under the microscope and vulnerable to criticism from all sides, you need to make the portable as attractive as possible. For that reason, pairing it with the best games is a smart idea.
Come on, Mario and co. Make it happen.
P.S. to all our fellow gamers in Europe. We're officially jealous.
