Super Mario 3D Land Sells More Than 625,000 Copies In The U.S.
Wait a second. Isn't 3DS doomed? This cannot be. Someone check the numbers. Wait, they're accurate?
What a turnaround for 3DS. Although no one left Nintendo's portable system for dead, they were close. Then all of a sudden, the price gets slashed and more quality games arrive, chief among them Super Mario 3D Land. Would the plumber turn things around?
Surprise, consumers still love Mario. People love him so much that they snatched up more than 625,000 copies in the U.S. throughout the month of November. That makes it the fastest selling Mario game in history. That's right. In two plus decades of Mario dominance, 3D Land is king. Believe it.
OK, that's great news, and there's more. 3DS officially surpassed the DS' first year sales in just eight months, with 2.37 million units sold.
In addition, November was by far 3DS' biggest month, a whopping 215 percent higher than the previous month.
On the console side, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword managed to sell over 600,000 copies its first week, while the Wii had the most impressive Black Friday in history, with more than 525,000 systems sold. That's crazy, by the way. Critics dumped that machine months ago.
Lots of success for the big N. Let's hope there's more to come.
