PSP Outsourcing Soon?
Sony looks elsewhere to produce more PSP units
A recent article in a Taipei newspaper, the Commercial Times, has stated that Taiwan-based company, Hon Hai Precision Industry, will soon be manufacturing additional PlayStation Portable units (Hon Hai also produces PlayStation 2 consoles for Sony).
Although the reports are unconfirmed, President of Sony Computer Entertainment, Ken Kutaragi, has stated the PSP will need to be outsourced to other companies to keep up with demand.
Currently there is only one manufacturing plant that produces PSPs (located in Tokyo). Although the plant produces roughly one-million units per month, Sony will need additional PSPs for the upcoming European launch, as well as continuing to supply other markets such as Japan and North America.
Modojo will have more on this story as it breaks.
