Sony Encouraged By 3DS Sales
Feels the positive response will bode well for PlayStation Vita.
For a while, it seemed smart phone games were affecting Nintendo's 3DS. Then the publisher cut the price, came out with compelling titled and system sales exploded.
According to Sony, this is great news.
With so many critics pointing to smart phones as the future of mobile games, Sony feels the 3DS' success means dedicated handhelds are here to stay. You know, like PlayStation Vita.
Recently, MCV sat down with SCEE president and CEO Jim Ryan, who had this to say:
"One of the encouraging things about 3DS' sales performance at Christmas is that it is confounding the naysayers who say that there is no room in the market for a dedicated handheld gaming device," he said.
"And to that extent we were encouraged by how 3DS did over the last month."
On the flip side, 3DS' resurgence could spell doom for Vita, right?
Not so, according to Ryan. "There are two distinct markets."
We'll find out this year, as 3DS and Vita square off worldwide.
