Exclusive 3DS Systems: See You Later, Aqua Blue
After seeing these sleek and sexy handhelds, you'll never look at Cosmo Black and Flame Red the same way again.
Most video game systems see redesigns or at the very least, different colors. Case in point, Nintendo's Atomic Purple N64 and Sony's Star Wars branded PSP. We're also quite fond of the much sought after Legend of Zelda Game Boy Advance SP, which comes in gold with the tri-force symbol. Snazzy.
Thankfully, it appears 3DS will see its share of exclusive variations to commemorate game releases and even Nintendo characters.
With that, here's a short list of 3DS handhelds that kick Cosmo Black and Aqua Blue to the curb.
Limited Edition The Legend of Zelda: 25th Anniversary 3DS (all territories)
To commemorate Zelda's 25th anniversary, Nintendo created this gorgeous 3DS. Along the top, there's gold trim, the Hyrule symbol, ocarinas and harps. Look around back, and there's a golden cartridge slot. Flip this baby open, and you'll notice gold lettering instead of the standard white.
Of course, as a bonus, you also receive a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
Metal Gear Solid Snakeskin 3DS (Japan...for now)
If memory serves, this is the first video game system (handheld or console) to feature a snakeskin pattern. Unfortunately, not much is known about it, aside from the fact that it'll come bundled with Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D in Japan. Cross your fingers for a U.S. release.
Kingdom Hearts 3DS (Japan...for now)
Announced this week, Square Enix plans to release a bundle in Japan March 29 that comes with Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and a slick 3DS to match, adorned with crowns, hearts and Mickey Mouse heads.
Not sure if this will reach the U.S., but there was a Kingdom Hearts PSP for Birth by Sleep.
Monster Hunter 3G Edition (Japan)
Monster Hunter Tri G (3G) hit Japan this past December, selling in excess of one million copies. We'd like to think this hot looking 3DS had something to do with it. Consumers receive the slick Ice White system, which features a Monster Hunter symbol and title of the game in red.
Mario Themed 3DS (Europe, Australia)
Nintendo Europe has a cool promotion where fans register two 3DS games from a list, then automatically get entered to win a rare Mario 3DS. Designs include the plumber's overalls, Princess Peach's dress and Toad's mushroom cap. Too bad we can't buy these in stores.
SD Gundam G Generation 3DS (Japan)
Namco Bandai's latest Gundam title is quite popular in Japan. So much so, that the publisher chose to release a bundle that comes with a Flame Red 3DS, decorated with silhouettes of three characters from the game and the following message: "In war, to keep the upper hand, you have to think two or three move ahead of the enemy. Char Aznable". Good luck finding one. It's sold out.
