Infinity Blade: Dungeons- Noticeably Absent From iPad 3 Launch
With the new iPad less than 24 hours away, it seems Epic will miss a grand opportunity.
Barring a surprise announcement, Infinity Blade: Dungeons won't debut alongside Apple's "resolutionary" new iPad when it goes on sale nationwide tomorrow.
A missed opportunity, indeed.
When Epic unveiled the latest chapter in the award-winning series at last week's Apple keynote, there were some that believed the title would appear on the device March 16, largely because of the timing, but it goes a bit deeper than that. The Infinity Blade titles serve as graphical benchmarks for iPad gaming, and the new iPad just so happens to have an incredible high-resolution screen. What better way to put that sucker to work and wow consumers than with a visually groundbreaking game?
Sadly, the odds of this happening appear slim. Epic has yet to discuss the game in-depth, with only a teaser trailer on the official website.
Of course, the publisher could pull off a surprise release, but this seems unlikely, as the company would probably prefer to build momentum over the course of several weeks, feeding the press gameplay details, screenshots and other media to entice fans.
You know, the same people that would automatically download the game if it somehow appeared tomorrow.
Bottom line, the Infinity Blade creators have earned the right to discuss the franchise how and whenever they want. At the same time, it's never a good idea to release a sexy piece of hardware without a must have killer app, which only proves one thing: despite Apple's commitment to gaming, it still has plenty to learn.
