Europe: PSP Launch Delayed?
Some industry insiders estimate that Sony might miss their target release in Europe.
A report from Reuters today suggests that Sony might miss their target release date for the wildly popular handheld device, the Sony PSP. The report, which sites a "company source", states that "There's a possibility that the launch could be delayed,"and adds that an announcement about the specific date would be made within the next several weeks.
If the reports hold true, this would be the second time a European launch for the PSP was stalled since Sony had originally planned to release the units by Christmas 2004. On the heals of yesterday's announcement of a March 24, 2005 North American launch for the unit, some analysts note that European launches tend to be more complicated. "(Europe) is a tough market because of the language issue," said Hiroshi Kamide, an analyst with KBC Securities. "The U.S. tends to be the easier target because you don't have to put so much effort into it to get a better return."
Although a spokesman from Sony refused to confirm or deny the report of another European delay for the PSP, they did say that Sony continues to expect to roll the machine out "in the spring."
