Shadowrun Returns To Wreck Havoc On iPad And Android Tablets
Popular fantasy franchise could make a welcome reappearance, pending a recent Kickstarter campaign.
We'll say this about Kickstarter: you never know what sorts of games will show up. One day, Double Fine Productions receives funding to create a new adventure, and the next, game designer Jordan Weisman and Harebrained Schemes launch a plan to revive the nearly 25-year-old Shadowrun franchise.
To that end, yes, Shadowrun is back...sort of. The classic role-playing series hangs in the balance, as Harebrained Schemes officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new title called Shadowrun Returns.
Spearheaded by Weisman, the game would appear on iPad, Android tablets and PC, with a possible Mac release if the project exceeds the requested $400,000, which seems likely, as the community pledged over $150,000 with 24 days to go.
As we understand it, this 2D adventure features a content-rich single-player campaign with deep turn-based combat, set within a dystopian cyberpunk future that also incorporates similar creatures from The Lord of the Rings. Players will explore an environment as one of four proposed classes (Street Samurai, Combat Mage, Hacker and Shaman), interacting with other characters using a conversation system inspired by Data East's Shadowrun Super Nintendo game.
Suffice to say, this is huge news, and we look forward to learning more about this intriguing title in the months ahead, providing it becomes a reality, of course.
That said, be sure to donate here.
