Aqua Teen Hunger Force Destruct-o-thon
There use to be a day when all licensed games were bad. This game reminds me of those days.
So you guys knew that I was an avid fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, right? I mean, sure, the entire Adult Swim brand has a certain kind of appeal on me, especially with the Family Guy reruns. But ATHF stands out just on the pure stupidity and joy that it brings. Where else are you going to find two Space Invaders rejects, the Mooninites, talking trash and blasting things with slow lasers? Or a sarcastic shake whose only care is for himself and his sometimes ridiculous antics, like getting plastic surgery or stealing whatever he can? There's nothing quite like the show...and that's where this disappointing mess of a game comes in.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Destruct-O-Thon for your cell phone really only has one thing going for it, and that's the appeal of the license itself. The presence of Shake, Meatwad, Frylock, and other characters from the show are the only things saving this limited playing piece of crap from being something totally worthless. As is, it looks like a big letdown for fans, anyway, and should probably be passed over in favor of the show itself.
Let me explain the point of the game, as little as it may be. You choose from one of our three heroes and then proceed into a contest across a series of levels, where you build up power on a slowly moving gauge (by hitting "5" when the sliding part is in the right section) and then launch an object, like an apple or a Mooninite, into the air. Think of it as a distance contest. The only other variation on this gameplay is a little contest where you try to blow up the car of your next door neighbor Carl- using the same play tactics.
The game is boring, really. The gameplay gets old within a matter of minutes, and the graphics are really nothing special. There's a few animations here, some bland backgrounds there, and nothing else. There's not even any sound samples from the show, just text messages as to what the characters are saying (and most of them are lame comments anyway). The theme song is present, but very, very limited.
This is a shameful waste of a good, albeit it ridiculous, license, a game that really has no point or value to it whatsoever. The Aqua Teen Hunger Force deserve a better game, and, now that their license is in the hands of Midway, they'll probably get one next year. In the meantime, skip this loser of a game and go watch the show instead. It's worse than one of the Mooninites' scams.
What's Hot: Sadly, just the ATHF theme song.
What's Not: This franchise deserves so much more.
