Dead Trigger: Legless Zombies Can Kill
We take Madfinger Games' stunning shooter for a bullet-spitting test drive.
NVIDIA surprised us at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with a playable version of Madfinger Games' Dead Trigger running on a Tegra-powered Android tablet. The bad news? We didn't get to explore the missions. The good news? The game features sick looking graphics while satisfying our desire to slaughter hordes of undead.
On that note, the level we played was fairly mindless; no offense to our zombie victims, of course. The objective was to collect three boxes placed throughout a rather small level featuring some dead ends, one of which was set up down a narrow corridor, creating a cool zombie shooting gallery. To make matters difficult, zombies appeared from just about everywhere, hopping over barricades and crawling from vents. We gave them an unfriendly welcome, blasting their heads off with a pistol, auto shotgun, mini gun and automatic rifle.
What stood out? Blowing off their arms and legs. In fact, an armless zombie will continue its relentless pursuit and will essentially head butt (perhaps head bite) you to death. The same holds true for the legless variety, which slowly move along the floor. Meanwhile, hitting the suckers dead center causes them to explode in a burst of red, and naturally, headshots put them down for good.
As for those attention-grabbing visuals, we spied reflections dancing across a small body of water, along with an untold number of particles hanging in the air, something the iOS version may lack. The game's definitely attractive, no question, but in-game footage appears to be a step down from Madfinger's recently released screenshots, though this could've been an earlier version.
That's basically it. There just wasn't enough meat on the demo's bones to get a good feel for how Dead Trigger will work, mission variety and also controls; we played using an external controller, and the only concern was the inability to aim down the weapon sights. However, we're always down for killing zombies, and although our time was brief, this title definitely scratched that itch. But don't worry. It'll be available soon enough.
