Riven For iPad Confirmed
High-resolution port in the works but it won't be realRiven.
Speaking to Modojo, CyanWorlds Founder and CEO Rand Miller has confirmed that Riven for iPad is currently in development at the studio. The news follows the recent release of realMyst for second and third generation iPads.
"The original Riven images are high enough resolution to look great on the iPad, so we're hard at work on a Riven for iPad," he said.
"I have a version on my iPad and it looks incredible."
Unlike realMyst, Riven for iPad will not be a fully-explorable 3D world, rather it will retain the original release's point-and-click first-person navigation perspective. As Miller explained:
"One project that seems logical on the surface would be realRiven, but that won't happen anytime soon. We would love to see it too, but Riven is massive, and converting it to realtime 3D would take years of work."
Released in 1997, Riven sold more than 1.5 million units during its first year on sale, and was the best-selling game of 1997.
We'll have the full interview with Rand Miller up on Modojo later this morning. In the meantime, our realMyst review has everything you need to know about the iPad port of the original game.
