Atari Turns 40, Releases Anniversary Trailer
Thanks Atari, for reminding us how old we are.
If you're one of those people who thinks video games began with Nintendo, time for a history lesson. Atari, former giant of the hardware and software universe, turns 40 today, and we can't help but think back to how the company shaped our childhoods. In the early 80s, we couldn't keep our hands off those Atari 2600 joysticks, playing such titles as Asteroids, Missile Command, Defender and Adventure. Primitive by today's standards, yes, but cutting edge stuff in the late 70s/early 80s.
Granted, Atari never fully recovered from the infamous video game crash of 1983, but it's great to see the publisher alive and well on mobile, where it just released Centipede: Origins to rave reviews. That said, please enjoy this anniversary trailer, and be sure to check out some of Atari's iPhone, iPad and Android games below. Oh, and happy birthday, Atari.
