Darkside Cheats And Tips

Blast your way to victory with our beginner's guide.

Yesterday we reviewed Clockwork Pixel's amazing 3D twin-stick shooter Darkside. If you're getting battered by asteroids and swamped by enemies, we've put together a few useful tips in our beginner's guide to the game.

It's all in the movement

If you're a twin-stick shooter fiend, you'll have been well-trained in the art of arena survival, making a circuitous route around the screen while taking potshots at the enemies whenever the path ahead is clear.

That's not going to get you very far in Darkside. We recommend destroying every fragment of a particular asteroid before rushing onto the next. Of course, this won't always be possible (especially if an enemy spawns behind you) but if you don't control the debris then it's only a matter of time until you come a cropper.

Be smart: bomb

You only get access to smart-bombs in the paid-for version but they can be a life-saver. You don't get anything for dying with bombs in the bank, and once your shields start to run low, you should get in the habit of having a thumb ready to strike and save your skin!

Missions

In protection missions, get into the habit of taking an orbital route between the mission objectives, clearing out any asteroids that you need to on the way. This will make it much easier to take on the enemies that spawn. It doesn't take long to orbit a planet in this way, and its better to keep pushing forward to an invader rather than back-track and run the risk of crashing into something behind you! This will also ensure that you grab every power-up.

There's not much we can help you with in the more survival-orientated missions but we can say this. Whenever an enemy appears, don't attack them head-on. Always fire at them while circling as they will fire straight at you. If you keep moving (while keeping a close eye out for debris), they can't hit you.
