Corn Quest Cheats And Tips

Our guide to getting the better of the vegetable battlefield!

Earlier today we reviewed Namco's thoroughly entertaining and frantic tower-defense title Corn Quest. If you're finding yourself overwhelmed by the invading enemies, we've put together a beginner's guide to help you plow through those irritating insects. Pun very much intended...

Get your priorities right

While each level will require its own strategy, we found it very useful indeed to have a flamethrower unit or two placed right near the spawning choke-point as soon as possible. These cost more money of course, so start by laying a few basic soldier units at the front of each placement area, leaving a gap to put your area-of-effect attackers in the moment you have the money.

This strategy will almost always hold off the attacking force long enough to earn the serious cash you need to fully defend the entire pathway.

Hold the bases

Once you've laid out your initial defense, and if you can afford it, we also recommend getting an engineer unit onto each flag as soon as possible. As well as keeping the flag intact, this will keep the enemies focused in one place, allowing you to pick them off at a slightly more leisurely pace.

Break the game

Save up your special support units for when you're really finding it impossible to make any progress, as you'll only get a few of each when you first purchase the game. Shuck Norris is fantastic for obliterating every enemy on the screen when you're overwhelmed, while the airstrike provides an incredibly powerful bombing run against the invading waves. Scarecrows can be used to draw the enemy's fire while you bolster your defenses, and the health-packs can be used to restore health to nearby units.

Long-range mayhem

Given their slow reload time, sniper units are best placed within range of your mighty towering corncob where they can pick off any stragglers before they reach the end of the map.
