Rock Band Being Removed From App Store On July 31st
Deal with Harmonix ends. Original game and Reloaded affected.
Back in May we reported that owners of Rock Band on mobile devices were being greeted with a message, informing them that the game would cease to be playable after the end of that month. EA were swift to respond and reassure players that they would be able to continue playing after that date.
Now, fansite RockBandAide.com are reporting that players of Rock Band Reloaded are being greeted with a similar message that warns that the title will be removed from the App Store from July 31st.
EA's support site confirms that sales of the game and associated music packs will be discontinued, but states that current owners will still be able to enjoy the app.
"EA's licensing agreement with Harmonix is ending and as a result, EA is discontinuing download of Rock Band iOS and Rock Band Reloaded iOS on the App Store after July 31st," it begins.
"If you own a Rock Band game on your iOS device, you can play it, but you cannot purchase new songs after July 31, 2012. You can access your previously purchased songs.
In order to continue playing the game, as well as any songs purchased through the App Store, you'll need to make sure that all songs are installed on your device before the app expires. You will only be able to retrieve your songs after July 31st if they have been backed up to iCloud.
