iOS And Android Games Of The Week: September 21, 2012
An unexpected arrival steals the iOS crown this week.
Sadly, it seems that a truly great fighter still eludes touchscreen technology, and while the hybrid fighting game delivers a solid, if rather visually scrappy, single player experience it suffers from jarring connection issues online. It might not take the crown this week, but we'd still definitely recommend taking a closer look, if only for the campaign mode.
Rayman Jungle Run on the other hand was everything we hoped it would be: bright, breezy, colorful and compelling. Mobiles and tablets make a great home for this classic character to continue his adventures on, and we can only hope to see more of them in the future.
iOS: The Room
Excellent though Rayman turned out to be, it's instead this fascinating puzzle game from developer Fireproof Games that really caught our attention. Mysteries wrapped within mysteries, The Room left us spellbound with its intricate puzzles, eery atmosphere and ingenious contraptions. It's not cheap, it's not long, and it's only available for the iPad, but we can't recommend the game enough. Perfect if you find yourself stuck inside on a rainy weekend afternoon.
Android: GT Racing: Hyundai Edition
A pretty slick looking racer that's free? Why not. This Hyundai edition of the racing series allows gamers to take charge of the Genesis Coupe, as well as one of those crazy concept cars: the hybrid-electric Hyundai i-oniq.
There are only two tracks in the package, set in Monte Carlo and Scandinavia, but for the price of nothing you can't really complain.
