Pilot! Cheats And Tips
Become the ultimate aviation entrepreneur with our beginner's guide.
Flawed though it may be, Pilot has enough soothing charms to keep anyone occupied for a fair few hours as we discovered in our review earlier today. There's one thing it does rather badly though, and that's explain the very basics of the game in the tutorial. Here's everything you need to know to master the skies.
How do I taxi?
Very, very gently would be our first piece of advice. Use only the gentlest of throttle as you steer your way onto the runway, and don't forget that you can always continuing steering the plane when it's at a dead stop. Who needs physics anyway?
It also doesn't matter which end of the runway you take off from, so just choose the end that will take you in the right direction towards your destination so as to minimize turning your plane mid-air. Fortunately, real-world airports don't work like this.
Why won't my plane take-off?
The short answer to this is because the game never actually tells you how to take off. Amazing. Anyway, once you're in a straight line, whack the throttle up to maximum, then pull down on the directional stick. As soon as you're traveling fast enough you'll lift off into the sky. Make sure you're pulling the stick straight down though or you'll end up crashing.
How do I align myself with the destination runway?
When you're in the air and within a certain proximity to the destination, you'll see two thin horizontal bars appear nearby. You need to steer left and right to bring the target runway perfectly between those two bars. When that happens, you're on a solid approach.
We recommend pulling your throttle down to 25% when you're 200 miles from the destination, aligning yourself properly, increasing the throttle for the final approach, and then shutting it right down when you're approximately 50 meters away from the runway.
How do I land safely?
Ah, the second most important part of flying. As you're approaching the runway, try and make sure that you're perfectly aligned with the guiding strip that appears just before it, and that you can only just see your shadow on the ground.
With your throttle turned all the way down, push up on the controls to bring your plane down very gently onto the tarmac. You should come to a stop pretty quickly with your throttle all the way down. When landing, be especially careful to aim the stick straight up unless you want to crash into the sea!
How can I get more planes without spending money?
