iOS And Android Games Of The Week: October 19, 2012
What a week. It started with disappointment as it looked as though Mobage's long-awaited card battle game Marvel War of Heroes hadn't just slipped its original release date, it had gone entirely AWOL. Fortunately, it appeared on the App Store yesterday, picking up a 3.5 star score in our review.
Fortunate too were the other spoils that served to dull that initial disappointment. Kumo Lumo delighted us with its fantastic experimental gameplay, while Girls Like Robots had us scratching our heads like few puzzle games have managed to do. This afternoon we've been lost in the magical musical world of Symphonica, but which one came out on top?
iOS: Kumo Lumo
For its sheer playfulness and fun this week's accolade has to go to the mighty Kumo Lumo. Set in a gorgeous and imaginative paper-craft world, you need to steer Kumo around the sky, teasing life into the planet, and seeing off the invaders who have their own deadly plans for the world. Grab this for the weekend and you'll still be playing it on Monday morning.
As someone who's grown almost entirely incapable of finding joy in an endless runner, I'm as surprised as anyone to declare Polara as our Android Game of the Week. What makes it so special? It's the extravagant playfulness the developers have had with the very simple core concept of color switching and trap design. Mesmerizing, agonizing and entertaining, we've played little else in our free time. Please buy it and have a wonderful weekend with it.
