The Price Is Right Slots
Ludia, the same company behind the immensely popular Jurassic Park Builder, is back with another iPhone and iPad game inspired by that iconic piece of television Americana, The Price is Right. Its freemium creation, The Price is Right Slots, captures the casino experience so well, we can almost smell the cigarette smoke and imagine wannabe millionaires crowding around germ-infested machines hoping to strike it rich. At the same time, the presentation manages to incorporate music and imagery from the game show, transporting us into a world of 70s-inspired delights.
Of course, the primary goal (as expected), is to win as much virtual cash as possible by making bets of different amounts, matching five symbols to create lines. What's especially cool is the option to boost the odds of winning by increasing the number of lines, from one all the way to 20. Meanwhile, going with the max bet fills a gauge that eventually grants access to Big Wheel Time, where you stand to multiply your score by 10.
Thing is, the developers made the game more appealing with added incentives. Each of the six machines (inspired by actual Price is Right games, like Cliffhangers and Three Strikes) contain items to collect for cash prizes, along with Shell and Contestant's Row tokens that let you enjoy simplistic mini games with potentially huge payouts. It may take hundreds of spins to acquire tokens, but at the very least, it's something to shoot for.
Now if all you care about is the max bet, you'll run out of coins rather quickly. Thankfully, smaller bets (especially with 20 lines) will keep you spinning for hours, which is a welcome sight in a free-to-play game. That said, Ludia offers more coins at various amounts via in-app purchase, but on the flip side, the opportunity for daily bonuses and free coins makes The Price is Right Slots more accessible than other titles. Conversely, smaller bets mean it'll take a much longer time to level up and unlock new slot machines, so there's definitely a risk versus reward element that may delight and turn off some people.
Naturally, it also helps that the studio blended the Price is Right bells and whistles into the experience. The familiar jingle is alive and well, along with an animated crowd, lots of bright colors that pop off the screen and other sweet touches that put the app above many of its competitors.
The only thing that slightly bugs us is the Facebook integration, where we're able to tap friends, share the game and receive coins. Can't tell whether they play Price is Right Slots, thereby creating a mutually beneficial feature, or if the game just randomly yanks people from our friends list, making those constant requests somewhat of an annoyance.
Aside from that, we think quite highly of The Price is Right Slots, and feel it's a wonderful companion for players in need of a gambling fix, one that won't result in them losing their paychecks. On that note, don't hesitate to come on down.
What's Hot: Captures the spirit of The Price is Right, six slot machines inspired by classic games, bonus mini games break up the monotony, free daily bonuses, gives you enough coins to put off making in-app purchases for a while, more machines on the way via update(
What's Not: Facebook friend integration a bit unclear, leveling up may take a while.
