Shellrazer Ice-Breaker- First Look Preview
The new expansion hits the App Store tomorrow. Here's what you can expect from it.
Remember Shellrazer? Back at the beginning of this summer, developer Slick Entertainment released its perfectly ridiculous action strategy title that saw players leading a giant, heavily armored turtle, one packed to the brim with guns, missiles and repair mechanics, on a continent-wide rampage to find the love of his life. In our August review, we awarded the game 4 out of 5 stars, praising its over the top violence and tasty upgrades.
Tomorrow, the team at Slick will be releasing a brand new update for the game, titled Ice-Breaker. As the name suggests this is a visually frosty take on the established Shellrazer gameplay, but as well as including support for Apple's latest hardware releases, it also packs in more creatures, levels, and daft upgrades for our hero.
First up are some new upgrades to pack onto the turtle's back. Chuckles the Dragon breathes a swathe of fire across the landscape, incinerating any chilly creatures within its vicinity. It's a generously deadly attack, but comes with a fairly stiff cooldown between uses, so you'll want to wait for a particularly packed screen before unleashing its fiery force.
As well as new upgrades, the new wintery theme for Shellrazer has allowed the team to pack in new enemy types and behaviors too: ninjas unexpectedly leap out of snowbanks, requiring some quick reaction skills to deal with, while walrus-riding warriors charge towards you armed with projectile explosives.
There are a total of 24 new levels to work your way through, and each one now includes a three star rating system to keep completionists busy. While the new upgrades are particularly tuned to the new ice-themed content, you'll be pleased to know that once you've had a taste of their power you can go back and use them in the pre-expansion levels too.
Slick Entertainment hasn't reinvented the wheel for Shellrazer with this new content, but no-one really wanted them to anyway. What we wanted was more silliness, more levels, and more upgrades to wreak havoc with on the game's many battlefields. Fans will be pleased to know that Ice-Breaker seems poised to deliver all of these things in spades.
