Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Makes Beautiful Music On iPhone And iPad
3DS favorite available for free on the App Store. Well, sort of.
In July, Square Enix treated 3DS owners to Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, a well-received music game that combined popular tracks from the franchise's respected catalogue. At first, it appeared to be exclusive to Nintendo's platform, but as we learned this week, Square Enix had bigger plans, as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy debuted on iPhone and iPad. What's more, it's free-to-play.
Now before you get too excited, remember, this is Square Enix, the same publisher that has no qualms charging $10 and up for its App Store games. With this in mind, you'll soon discover that much of Theatrhythm's outstanding soundtrack can only be unlocked via in-app purchase. That said, the money appears to be worth it, especially with the inclusion of an iOS exclusive Quest Medley mode, which lets users play through purchased songs in a rhythmical gauntlet.
Believe it or not, we picked up Theatrhythm Final Fantasy over the summer and have yet to play it on 3DS. Seems like our first step into this musical gem will be on a smartphone and tablet.
