10 Free iOS And Android Games To Play Right Now: January 2, 2013
Ring in the new year with these addictive titles.
2012 ended, but its games continue to dominate the App Store and Google Play, particularly the free titles every iOS and Android owner should enjoy well into the new year. With this in mind, make sure you download these 10 must haves. Obviously, the sooner the better.
Captain America and the Hulk pummel bad guys in this supremely impressive Infinity Blade clone that normally sells for $6.99, but is now free for a limited time. Not the most complex game on iOS, not that it matters, as you swipe in all sorts of directions to destroy a variety of evildoers.
The Walking Dead: The Game
Survivor horror made a fantastic return to form with Telltale's critically acclaimed point-and-click adventure, based on the popular comic series. Although the explorative gameplay is basic fare, the believable characters, tough decisions and shocking moments (along with plenty of zombies and gore to spare) make The Walking Dead a favorite, so give it a try. The first episode is free, albeit temporarily.
Where's My Holiday?
Disney spread holiday cheer with its newest iOS creation, which gives users a taste of both Where's My Water? and Where's My Perry?, with links to download each. Twelve puzzles won't last long, but on the positive side, those aforementioned games are just $0.99 apiece, and there are free versions to boot.
Candy Crush Saga
Indulge your virtual sweet tooth with this addictive match-three puzzler. Combine candies of the same colors to make them disappear, and do so while clearing jelly and various ingredients off the board. Integration with Facebook, complete with friends' scores, put Candy Crush ahead of the competition.
There's a good chance you missed Activision's re-imaging of the old Atari 2600 classic, probably because it cost money to download. Well, the company threw the price out the proverbial window, and now you can tear through the jungle, hitch rides in mine carts and whip snakes for zero dollars.
Icon Pop Quiz
Despite being riddled with ads, we found Icon Pop Quiz to be quite irresistible. The game throws images inspired by real and fictitious characters, and you guess the correct answer with a standard virtual keyboard. While it's true that the game's one and done after you identify all those icons, the fact that the app includes over 600 means you'll be quite busy.
Free turn-based goodness for iPhone and iPad. Assemble a team of RAD Soldiers, then set these commandos loose against the computer or, if you prefer a more personal touch, another player via online multiplayer.
The super popular drag racing game dominated the App Store for much of 2012, and it appears to be going strong, thanks in large part to the recently added online multiplayer. Now you can trick out a sweet ride and compete against other people from across the globe.
A delightful puzzle game where players connect multi-colored dots with piping. With both free and paid-for level packs, there's quite a bit to discover, all without going broke in the process.
Hill Climb Racing
Don't let its simple appearance fool you into thinking Hill Climb Racing's easy. Far from it. This physics-driven title will test your balancing skills as you inch up the mountain.
