iOS And Android Games Of The Week: March 8, 2013
Run through Seaside Hill and the magical land of Oz.
Get ready for a double dose of endless running games on both iOS and Android. That's right. This week's titles send you on non-stop runs through attractive environments full of hazards and beautiful scenery. One features a welcome shot of supersonic speed, while the other lets you jog along the yellow brick road.
iOS: Sonic Dash [Download]
Creating an endless runner starring Sonic the Hedgehog makes a lot of sense. So much that we can't help but shake our heads at Sega for taking this long. Thankfully, the addictive Sonic Dash gives Temple Run 2 serious competition, as the blue blur races through Seaside Hill and Sky Sanctuary winding around giant loops, rolling through robotic crabs and grabbing as many gold rings as possible to make upgrades in the virtual store. The swipe controls are easy to get the hang of, familiar music will appeal to your inner Sonic fan and the option to play as three additional characters (Amy, Tails and Knuckles) is a welcome treat, so long as you have enough red star rings to unlock them all.
Disney teamed with Imangi Studios in 2012 to release Temple Run: Brave. For its next collaboration, both companies turned to the recently released film, Oz the Great and Powerful. The fruit of its collective labor, Temple Run Oz, does both franchises justice. On the one hand, you have the familiar endless running gameplay that made the Temple Run series a smash hit around the world, merged with the ever-changing scenery from the movie, including the aforementioned golden road and a cool hot air balloon sequence. A must play if you enjoy these types of games.
