TiVo to Transfer Content to PSP
Watermarks will prevent unlawful use
Everyone's favorite TV schedule liberator TiVo announced plans to enhance their TiVoToGo feature for automatic transfer to portable video devices such as PSPs and iPods. Right now the TiVoToGo feature allows for the transfer of video stored on the TiVo box over the home network to a PC hard drive. The increased functionality will be accomplished via the purchase of "certain low cost software."
"The increasing popularity of mobile devices for viewing video such as Apple's iPod and the PSP device demonstrate the enormous consumer demand for entertainment on the go," said TiVo CEO Tom Rogers.
To prevent piracy of the large amount of newly-mobile media, the company will use watermark technology that tracks the account that the video originated from. There was no announcement regarding the resolution or quality of the PSP-enabled video.
The service is being tested by a small group of consumers now, with a full rollout expected in early 2006.
