Fast & Furious 6: The Game
Aside from oddball Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious is one of those rare movie franchises that became better with age. The vehicles have remained consistently impressive, but the boost in story quality and addition of The Rock added depth to a series that was all flash, no substance. As for the video games, while not the highest rated titles, these arcade-style racers were good enough to deliver a few thrills. That said, Fast & Furious 6: The Game is on its way to iOS and Android, just in time for the new film's May 24 debut.
Based on the flick's plot, the mobile-driven effort sends players to London, where they'll step behind the virtual wheels of several high performance muscle cars, including the classic 1970 Dodge Charger. Each vehicle was painstakingly recreated in the game, and based on the images, the developers at Kabam have done fine work.
As a member of the Fast & Furious crew, the primary goal obviously involves winning races, but an all-new Heist mode should give players something else to shoot for, aside from simply crossing the finish line. Although we've yet to see this in action, gamers will earn cash to customize and upgrade those sweet rides while at the same time unlocking the next tier of heists.
On top of that, Fast & Furious 6 will let players compete in tournaments and even join a crew of fellow gamers in the hope of dominating global leaderboards. Whether or not the game will feature real-time multiplayer, unfortunately, remains to be seen.
It appears that Kabam hopes to compete with Gameloft's Asphalt 7:Heat, which up until now has remain unchallenged in the arcade racing scene. Considering how popular Fast & Furious is, though, the competition should increase once this title hits those respective app stores. Expect to see it in the near future.
