Around the World In Eighty Days
It didn't even take me eighty minutes to get through this one.
Well, last year Walt Disney Pictures took a chance with the film remake of Around the World In 80 Days, featuring Jackie Chan as the hapless Passepartout as he helped a scientist engage in a worldwide journey via hot-air balloon. The movie was okay but was no classic like the original 60's film, probably because the formula was a bit difficult to take in. With that, I decided to check out the mobile game based on the film to see if it was a journey worth taking. Sadly, it too lacks.
The game puts you in control of Passepartout as he journeys across four world locales, taking on bad guys with typical attacks while keeping protection of a Jade Buddha statue. However, if he's hit too many times, he loses control of the statue and eventually has to backtrack through a level to retrieve it. Yeah, great idea there to add moving backwards to a side-scrolling brawler.
The graphics on this one look okay. The level design isn't much but the fact the game includes scrolling is a nice touch. The animation is pretty bland, however. Sound-wise, nothing really sticks out either. And gameplay is practically dialed in, with Passepartout staying about the same in skill level throughout and not really getting anything new. It's like the game was dialed in quicker than your mom on speed dial.
I suppose if you liked the movie, the game's worth looking over. But as for me, my time's spent on better adventures, ones that challenge me and keep me enthralled as I sit for appointments and such. Around the World In 80 Days just doesn't cut it for me.
What's Hot: Jackie Chan kung fu action!
What's Not: Backtracking and not much inspiration.
