iOS And Android Games Of The Week: June 21, 2013
Two great titles to play while lounging near the pool.
Mobile game critics often point to the overall lack of quality between what developers put on smartphones/tablets compared to consoles. Thankfully the gap between these platforms narrowed with help from 2K Games. The publisher successfully ported one of 2012's highest rated titles to iOS. Meanwhile, Disney released a captivating puzzler on both the App Store and Google Play. As usual, gamers win.
iOS- XCOM: Enemy Unknown [Download: iOS]
Turns out, you can sell iOS games for $19.99 so long as the quality experience justifies the high cost. That's the case with this outstanding port of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the critically acclaimed turn-based strategy game that made one heck of a jump from console to mobile. The superb gameplay remains intact, as users manipulate a squad of soldiers into battle against rampaging aliens. Touchscreen controls work beautifully and the sheer amount of content will keep people enthralled for weeks. Consider this the benchmark for console-to-smartphone porting, and perhaps an exciting glimpse into the future as Apple devices become even more powerful.
The developers behind Disney's Where's My [insert word/character here] franchise deserve high praise for dreaming up new ways to keep things interesting, with Where's My Mickey? the newest exciting creation. Although the basic premise of clearing dirt to direct the flow of water remains front and center, the inclusion of weather like clouds and wind add a whole other element to the gameplay. Throw in over 100 levels to master and slick animations, and Disney/puzzle fans will definitely get their $0.99 worth.
