Classic Castlevania invades your cell phone...and rocks.
Castlevania debuted way back in the mid-80's on Nintendo's Entertainment System, and with it came a following that sees new entries to this very day. And why not? This is a captivating action/adventure series that never gets old and has hours of fun packed into it, with a Belmont (or another character) whipping enemies and using special items to move ahead. Now we revisit the NES classic yet again, this time for the cell phone, and I'm glad to say it's held up well.
In the game, you take control of Simon Belmont as he works his way through the castle to defeat the evil Count Dracula and his countless minions. Along the way, you'll find use for several power-ups, including a boomerang, an axe, or a clock that allows you to temporarily stop time. Each of these items have their own little features that help you move ahead, and add to the thrill of the game itself.
The game still looks and sounds just as marvelous as it's ever been, with old-school adventure around every corner and lots of enemies to defeat. The gameplay feels just fine on a cell phone, right down to the ability of using special items and jumping across near-impossible gaps. I would've liked to see new items thrown in perhaps, or maybe placement of enemies shifted around, but, hey, why mess with a classic?
This game is quite simply a must have. Its classic taste hasn't soured yet, and its gameplay and presentation will leave you hooked. I just hope Dracula's Curse makes the journey sometime soon here.
What's Hot: All the classic glory of Castlevania is yours for on the go!
What's Not: No announcement of Dracula's Curse...yet.
