MechAssault DS Confirmed
Touch screen enhanced mecha action
Majesco confirmed today the development of MechAssault: Phantom War for the Nintendo DS, and being the first handheld iteration of the popular series, it'll feature all the various franchise trademark elements and make use of the system's touch screen for a different approach to control and manoeuvrability.
Developed by Backbone Entertainment, the third-person futuristic shooter will have players take on the role of a MechWarrior in the 32nd century and control one of mankind's greatest weapons, the BattleMech.
The top screen of the DS will display the combat area in 3D, while the bottom touch screen showcases the cockpit. Over 20 types of vehicles are being planned for the game, including Mechs, Tanks, Turrets and BattleArmor. The single player mode will run a total of 24 campaigns taking place across four planets, and a multiplayer option will allow up to four players to battle against each other wirelessly in three different game types.
MechAssault: Phantom War for the Nintendo DS should arrive in stores sometime later this year.
