Tetris Monsters Invading Japan
Why should Pokemon have all the fun?
Tetris has always been an addictive rush over the years, whether you started playing it on the NES or picked up one of EA's more recent mobile versions. At the same time, the company has kept the basic formula intact, outside of additional modes and the inclusion of touch-based gameplay. That will change this summer when it introduces a new monster-based iOS version in Japan.
Tetris Monsters utilizes the classic puzzle piece-dropping gameplay we've come to know so well, but now involves battles with a bunch of unique characters, ranging from skeleton warriors to dancing mutant chickens. It appears that combo attacks will be introduced depending on how many lines you eliminate from the play field - making those four-line Tetris hits even more crucial than ever. You can watch the quirky trailer below.
There's no word on a U.S. release for the game, but considering the growing popularity of the monster game market on mobile - GungHo Online Entertainment's Puzzle & Dragons has several million players registered in this market alone - it's just a matter of time.
