Jewel Mania Halloween
If you're expecting a radical overhaul of the Jewel Mania gameplay in this Halloween edition of the game, you should probably check your expectations at the door. Aside from a few cosmetic changes found in the artwork and the soundtrack, this is very much the match-three gameplay you might already be familiar with from the original game.
And if you're not familiar with Jewel Mania's gameplay, you're almost certainly familiar with that of a minor title by the name of Candy Crush Saga. Here, as in that life-sucking game, you must slide adjacent gems together to create minimum match-three combos, or create bigger match-ups if you wish to unlock explosive bombs that wipe out gems of a particular color, or diamond-tipped chisels that wipe out entire rows or columns.
Like Candy Crush Saga, you'll also have a handful of different level types to beat, each one of which is framed around this standard match-three gameplay. In some stages, you'll have to make matches to clear adjacent obstacles that otherwise hinder board development. In others, you'll need to smash every glass block on the screen to beat the level. Timed levels and limited-move challenges also keep the action fresh. As we said though, it's very familiar stuff.
The challenge starts off pretty tame as you're shown these familiar ropes, but after 20 levels or so you'll find it harder and harder to come out of each level with the minimum two out of three stars that you need to gain an energy point reward. You start off with a handful of these points, and have to spend one for each level attempt. Once you've run out of these completely, you either need to wait out a timer - or spend money at the shop.
When all's said and done, there's no denying that Jewel Mania remains the fiendishly addictive little puzzle game it's always been, and your kids will love the Halloween flavor to this seasonal edition. Don't expect anything revolutionary, but do expect more than a few missed bus stops. You've been warned.

What's Hot:Classic match-three gameplay with a fun Halloween twist. If you hit a wall in the original game, it's a great opportunity to enjoy the game all over again.
What's Not:If you're all done with Candy Crush Saga, it'll give you the chills. Performance is also quite choppy for such a simple title.
