Final Fantasy 7 Too Big For Mobile?
Square Enix explains why we won't see the popular RPG on iOS and Android anytime soon.
Square Enix, a company that is no stranger to mobile gaming, really wants to bring its PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7 to iOS and Android. Unfortunately, there's a slight problem with the game's transition - it's too big.
Speaking with Shacknews, Square Enix's Takashi Tokita explained, "Unfortunately, it's not that it's not impossible for us to develop Final Fantasy 7 for mobile. It's that, currently, space will be an issue. Phones won't be able to contain the space it takes. It's over a gigabyte. People are probably going to have to wait a few years."
That doesn't sound like much of an excuse, though. Most high-quality games for mobile go well over a gigabyte, including the likes of Infinity Blade 3 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. In fact, that last one clocks in at under 2 GB.
Regardless, we'll see Final Fantasy 7 some day. For now, the other classic Final Fantasy titles will have to do. You can always watch the old-school trailer below for nostalgia's sake.
